Placenta Services in the DC Area
“Placentas contain vitamins, minerals and hormones that are specific to the mother’s body, replenishing and revitalizing her energy, supplementing her emotional and physical reserves called upon to attend to requirements placed on her by motherhood. New mothers can also benefit from ingesting placenta to soothe the emotional rollercoaster of the early postpartum period, placenta to hasten healing and restoration after birth, increase breast milk production, decrease postpartum bleeding and aid the transition of the uterus to its prenatal state.
Placenta encapsulation involves cleaning, steaming, drying, grinding and encapsulating the placenta in a gel capsule (vegan capsules are available). This provides all the benefits without unusual tastes or smells and preserves the placenta’s medicinal properties, ensuring many weeks of hormonal support. Some women save their placenta capsules for later in life, to ease the transition to menopause.” ~ Claudia Booker, of Birthing Hands of DC

I am a birth doula, a placenta specialist, I am certified in laboring massage, and a student midwife.
Family is the focal point of my life, my work, and my passions, and fuels everything I do. I come to birthwork as I began building my own family so that I could support others in having a positive transition through their own birth and postpartum journeys. Coming from a large family, as one of 9 siblings I know exactly how important family and community support are, and I am grateful for the opportunity to support you as you build your own family (large or small).
I began my professional studies in Nursing but quickly switched to Doula work and Midwifery as I realized the importance of building strong and personal relationships with my clients as they walk their individual paths. In my role as a doula, I specialize in supporting families through pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, and lactation/infant feeding. Additionally, I am currently completing my certifications for labor massage, and am enrolled in midwifery school at Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery.
In my studies and in my work, I emphasize cultural diversity, humility, and acceptance. After several years in Southwest Florida, I am delighted to have returned to the Washington DC area, where I can support such diverse and interconnected communities, and where I have found a home community in which I can spread passion, love, and support in everything I do and with everyone I meet.

I am a midwife, doula, childbirth educator and placenta encapsulator serving a 80 mile radius from Hagerstown, MD. After bringing 5 of my own children into the world, I have been serving laboring women for 6 years. I attend home or hospital births and have varied experiences allowing me to serve families of varied backgrounds and cultures.
I believe that childbirth is more than just a physical event. It is a sacred time for mother, baby, the new family and the community. I believe that birth is a spiritual transition for the woman as she moves into motherhood for the first, fifth or tenth time! Every time I attend a birth, I feel deeply honored that I am privileged to witness a momentous event. I also believe that birth is normal. Birth works best when undisturbed and motherbaby are encouraged to move, eat, drink and follow instincts.
My service as a midwife, doula or childbirth educator reflects this philosophy. I do not believe in “methods” of childbirth. While they are helpful for some, childbirth methods tell the mother how to birth her child. This insinuates that she does not innately know how to birth her child already. Rather, I recommend taking time during the pregnancy to get in tune with baby and focusing on “letting go”.
I am available to serve as a midwife at home births or as a doula at hospital or home births. Please contact me for more information. I serve MD , VA, PA and WV.

Turning your placenta into easy to swallow capsules that will be consumed as a supplement during the first weeks of your postpartum period.
I became a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist after learning of its many benefits and how it could have helped some of the families she'd watched struggle with their postpartum recovery over the years.
Placenta encapsulation has been practiced for centuries as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to treat postpartum hormone imbalances and to aid in the relief of fatigue and lactation issues in new mothers.
