Placenta Services in the DC Area
“Placentas contain vitamins, minerals and hormones that are specific to the mother’s body, replenishing and revitalizing her energy, supplementing her emotional and physical reserves called upon to attend to requirements placed on her by motherhood. New mothers can also benefit from ingesting placenta to soothe the emotional rollercoaster of the early postpartum period, placenta to hasten healing and restoration after birth, increase breast milk production, decrease postpartum bleeding and aid the transition of the uterus to its prenatal state.
Placenta encapsulation involves cleaning, steaming, drying, grinding and encapsulating the placenta in a gel capsule (vegan capsules are available). This provides all the benefits without unusual tastes or smells and preserves the placenta’s medicinal properties, ensuring many weeks of hormonal support. Some women save their placenta capsules for later in life, to ease the transition to menopause.” ~ Claudia Booker, of Birthing Hands of DC

Placenta Encapsulation is an easy, safe and completely natural way to restore nutrients and balance hormones needed after birth. I am pleased to provide Placenta Encapsulation services in the Northern Virginia area. I will pick up the placenta as soon after birth as possible and process the placenta in my home. I can do either The Chinese Method or Traditional method of processing. I will return the completed capsules to you with 48 hours so you can begin enjoying the benefits as soon as possible. Additionally, I can provide a placenta print, umbilical cord keepsake, tincture or salve upon request. My basic fee is $225.
Claudia Booker, CPM, CD
This process is done at my home. The number of capsules (I use vegan capsules only) produced by your placenta depends on the size and density of your placenta and each capsule is hand filled. If you are interested in having your placenta encapsulated please contact me by your 38th week of pregnancy so that I am anticipating your request. I may be available to serve you with less notice if my schedule permits. Depending on where you live we can make arrangements for either your doula or support person to drop your placenta at my home in NW Washington DC or for me to pick the placenta up at your home, birth center or hospital. This is a mutual decision made before the birth.
I prefer to receive your placenta within the first 24 hours. If you would like to keep a portion of your placenta to use in a shake or smoothie while the remainder is being encapsulated, I can give you a portion to take with you. If you would like, I can make a placenta tincture for you also. It is my goal to have completed encapsulating your placenta and have it available to you within 72 hours after receiving it.
The fee is $250.00 if you drop off and pick up at my home; $275.00 if I pick up and deliver
I offer Raw, Traditional Chinese Method inspired encapsulations as well as tinctures, essences, prints, cord keepsakes, salves, smoothies and chocolates. I use all vegan capsules and everything is latex free. I prefer to encapsulate at my house but can encapsulate at your home if you prefer, for an extra fee. For either raw or TCM inspired method of encapsulation it is $250, unless you are my birth doula client then it is $200. This includes the umbilical keepsake. Add-ons are extra but very reasonable. Every placenta that I handle is treated with respect and is honored. Please call or visit my website for more details.

For the duration of your pregnancy your placenta is the lifeblood of your baby and it is the only disposable organ that we can ever have! Creating this extraordinary organ is just one of the miracles that occurs within our bodies during pregnancy. As your placenta encapsulator, I take your health and safety very seriously. My encapsulation services are performed in a safe, sterile environment, either in-house or in my office, with zero chance of contamination. The pills are delivered in a timely manner (within 2 days after delivery) and all of my equipment is either disposable or sterilized. Amy E. Miller, CPM
midwife, monatrice, doula, placenta encapsulation, childbirth education
I am a midwife, doula, childbirth educator and placenta encapsulator serving a 80 mile radius from Hagerstown, MD. After bringing 5 of my own children into the world, I have been serving laboring women for 6 years. I attend home or hospital births and have varied experiences allowing me to serve families of varied backgrounds and cultures.
I believe that childbirth is more than just a physical event. It is a sacred time for mother, baby, the new family and the community. I believe that birth is a spiritual transition for the woman as she moves into motherhood for the first, fifth or tenth time! Every time I attend a birth, I feel deeply honored that I am privileged to witness a momentous event. I also believe that birth is normal. Birth works best when undisturbed and motherbaby are encouraged to move, eat, drink and follow instincts.
My service as a midwife, doula or childbirth educator reflects this philosophy. I do not believe in “methods” of childbirth. While they are helpful for some, childbirth methods tell the mother how to birth her child. This insinuates that she does not innately know how to birth her child already. Rather, I recommend taking time during the pregnancy to get in tune with baby and focusing on “letting go”.
I am available to serve as a midwife at home births or as a doula at hospital or home births. Please contact me for more information. I serve MD , VA, PA and WV.

Your body deserves the very best care after it has grown, cared for, and nourishes your baby. Having your placenta encapsulated help you with the physical and hormonal changes after your birth. I am fully trained by IPPA and hold to the highest sanitation and safety protocols. My work is fully transparent as I use the method you desire for preparation, and give you the option of additional services such as prints, tinctures, smoothy cubes, salves, essences, and more. I will lovingly prepare your placenta for you in your own home where you can watch the process if you so desire, or take the time to snuggle your baby as I work. This gives you an opportunity to have a birth professional come into your home and make sure you are doing well in the immediate postpartum period with breastfeeding, baby care, and adjusting to parenthood. If you need any additional resources I will be able to help you find them before I leave your home. The cost of the service is $250, which includes a $50 deposit at signing of contract. If for any medical reason the placenta is not able to be encapsulated, the deposit is returned to you, and no further fees are due. I also provide birth doula, childbirth education, and bengkung belly binding services.

My Birth Companion
Turning your placenta into easy to swallow capsules that will be consumed as a supplement during the first weeks of your postpartum period.
I became a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist after learning of its many benefits and how it could have helped some of the families she'd watched struggle with their postpartum recovery over the years.
Placenta encapsulation has been practiced for centuries as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to treat postpartum hormone imbalances and to aid in the relief of fatigue and lactation issues in new mothers.
